Book Group to Delve into ‘Living a Committed Life’

This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one … the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I’ve got a hold of for the moment, I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations. – George Bernard Shaw

Hmm… how to follow up on Braiding Sweetgrass, last year’s beautiful winter read? We needed something inspiring, deep and wise. As it happened, a couple of months ago co-founder of Pachamama Alliance Lynne Twist released her new book Living a Committed Life. Perfect timing!

The George Bernard Shaw quote above has hung over Lynn Twist’s mantel for years and she says it epitomizes the meaning of commitment.

Southern Oregon Pachamama Alliance invites you to join us in reading her timely book. We’re planning five Saturday sessions — Jan. 14 & 28, Feb. 11 & 25, and March 11 — with the time to be agreed upon by the group. Meetings will be facilitated by participants who volunteer to lead, so if you would like to volunteer, let us know when you sign up if you are willing to take that role early in the series, otherwise, volunteer when you feel moved to do so.  To sign up, please send an email to info@southernoregonpachamama.org with “Book Group” in the subject line, preferably by Jan. 10. We’ll send out a Zoom link and updates prior to the first meeting.

Here are what some are saying about the book:

In this inspiring book Lynne Twist emphasizes that each one of us makes some impact, every day. Let us make good decisions and work together — the cumulative effect will make this a better world. — Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, founder of the Jane Goodall Instiute and United Nations Messenger of Peace.

“Living a Committed Life” is a beacon of hope at a time when we desperately need it. — Jack Canfield, coauthor of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and “The Success Principles.”
