The Water Action Community (WAC), hosted by Southern Oregon Pachamama Alliance and Water League, will have a presence at two Earth Day celebrations in the valley this weekend: in Ashland on Friday and in Williams on Saturday. The theme for the WAC booth at both events is “Gratitude for Water.” Be sure to drop by to say “Hi” and learn more about how the water action cohorts are coming along.
The Ashland Earth Day Celebration, Friday, April 21
Southern Oregon University and community partners will be on hand with exhibits while organizers have lined up live performances, an electric vehicle showcase, bike rodeo, art, food trucks and more at The Farm at SOU, 155 Walker Avenue, Ashland. Exhibits will feature education and opportunities for action.
Everyone is invited to participate in the “Earth Day Ecoquest” where you can enjoy interactive educational activities at designated booths for all ages. The activity may be a short game, trivia, easy craft project, or other activity that encourages learning related to the environment, sustainability, or social justice. Participants will be able to earn tokens for completing Ecoquest activities that can earn them prizes.
Live entertainment will be featured throughout the event on The Farm’s Thalden Pavilion stage.
Siskiyou Oregon Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Association (SOHEVA) members will display their EV’s at the electric vehicle showcase, and answer questions on their electric driving experiences. Green Cars of Lithia Motors will offer test drives/rides for a true EV experience. Register to participate!
Kids of all ages who bring their bike to the event can take a spin around the “Bike Rodeo” hosted by RVTD. Learn and practice bike safety and ride the course!
Need a break from all the action? A quiet zone will be located in the ScienceWorks geodesic dome. Earplugs, snacks, seating, and quiet activities are available for anyone that needs a more relaxing atmosphere.
The Williams Earth Day Celebration, Saturday, April 22
The Williams Community Forest Project Earth Day Celebration will be held at the Sugarloaf Community Association land in Williams behind the Williams Grange, 206 Tetherow Road, Williams from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The theme this year is Gratitude. We will be giving thanks for the earth and its people who are wonderfully protecting it.
The day will be filled with a host of music and activities for all ages and booths from organizations and businesses from all over Southern Oregon. A suggested entrance donation will be $10-$20 for non-booth participants, children under 12 are free.
Come and have your children’s faces painted to join the All Species Parade dressed as their favorite plant or animal. Enjoy a line up including Ray of Light Dance Troupe, New Moon Drummers, the Procession of All Species and five musical performances. Browse, network, and learn at the other local creative and educational booths that demonstrate how we give thanks and protect the earth and its inhabitants and partake in organic food and drink.
