Vesper Meadow Announces Five 2024 Priorities

Vesper Meadows

This info came from our friends at Vesper Meadow.

Greetings friends of Vesper Meadow,

As winds whirl around the nearby snow-tipped Mt McLaughlin and look back on the past year, we extend gratitude to the community that has grown up around Vesper Meadow. Thank YOU for your support! All of our work is done in partnership, held in community, powered by volunteers, and sustained by generous supporters.

These are our top priorities for 2024:

(1) Furthering regional partnerships and student engagement in beaver-based restoration
Engaging High School youth and community members in building restoration structures in Latgawa Creek. This work brings together the BLM Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, US Forest Service, Project Beaver, Jackson Co. Soil and Water Conservation District, and Friends of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument.

(2) Providing teachers throughout Oregon with learning tools about wildfire ecology and Indigenous cultural fire
Reaching local classrooms, creating online learning tools, and holding statewide teacher workshops to extend our new Fire Ecology and the Human Relationship curriculum.

(3) Bringing partners together for rare and imperiled meadow species conservation
Continued scientific monitoring and habitat restoration for the imperiled species that depend on Cascade-Siskiyou meadows: Klamath Mardon Skipper butterfly and Oregon Vesper Sparrow.

(4) Expanding our new Healing Landscapes Program for Indigenous families and youth.
Providing restorative, culturally-specific programming that centers wellbeing of the mutual human-land connection.

(5) Growing our artist partnership programs to reach wider audiences.
Furthering our network of painters, dancers, photographers, writers, and musicians to engage in story telling of community-powered restoration.

We are feeling fortunate for an anonymous donor who will match every donation 1:1 through Dec. 3. With your gift of support, we can achieve all the above and more in 2024.
